Man-made & Processed

Stone processing and the creation of stones in a laboratory has been taking off recently. It's not always easy to distinguish these stones from real gemstones and crystals, and even we at Kristalmeester have made a few mispurchases in the past. 

Kristalmeester stands for quality and we focus mainly on genuine high quality gemstones, minerals and crystals. However, there is also a limited demand for man-made and processed gemstones and some of these creations are attributed certain fine qualities. We do however find it important that you know what you're buying and we at Kristalmeester try to be as transparent as possible in this matter. 

Man-made gemstones

Man-made gemstones are gemstones that are produced by humans and in many cases they are made of glass like Opalite.

Synthetic stones are often produced in a laboratory, sharing the chemical composition of the natural stone but sometimes certain elements are beind added. Usually these stones have a striking color palette or are actually designed "too perfectly". Unfortunately, it is not always easy to distinguish some man-made creations with the naked eye and further investigation is required.

Processed gemstones 

Processed gemstones are often natural gemstones that have been processed with, for example, a coating. A good example of this are Aura stones, which usually have a rock crystal as a base, which is heated in a vacuum and then provided with a coating of gold, silver, titanium, niobium or other metal oxides. 

Another well-known technique for manipulating gemstones is to heat stones at different temperatures to influence the color palette. A good example of this is Citrine Quartz which is basically a burnt Amethyst. Citrine Quartz often has great contrasts between yellow, gold and white Rock crystal. Real Citrine is precious and often bright light yellow and smoky in color.
